Getting started
Does it cost anything to request a quote?
No. There is no fee to request a quote or have us review your options. If you choose a policy, the insurance carrier compensates our agency. We will explain that before you decide.
What information do I need to get started?
It depends on the coverage. For auto, basic driver and vehicle details help. For home, property details such as year built and roof age are useful. For business, a description of operations, payroll, and property is a good start. If you have a current policy, keep the declarations page nearby. We can fill in the gaps together.
How long does a quote review take?
Many conversations start with a short call, and comparisons depend on how quickly carriers respond. We will give you a realistic timeline for your situation instead of promising an instant price.
Do I have to switch my coverage if I request a quote?
No. A quote request is just a conversation. You can review the options, ask questions, and keep your current coverage if that is the better decision for you.
Are you tied to one insurance company?
No. We are an independent agency, which means we are not limited to a single carrier's products. We compare the options available for your situation.
Where are you located?
Our office is at 828 Allen Road, Ste 219, Lexington, KY 40504. You can also reach us by phone at (763) 766-7744 or by email at info@updateyourquotes.com.
Auto insurance
What are Kentucky's minimum auto insurance requirements?
Kentucky requires liability coverage of at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, plus $25,000 for property damage. Kentucky also requires personal injury protection (PIP) of at least $10,000. Requirements can change, so confirm the current rules with the Kentucky Department of Insurance or the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet before relying on this summary.
What does full coverage mean?
“Full coverage” is a shorthand, not a policy type. It usually means liability coverage plus collision and comprehensive coverage, and possibly other add-ons. Each part has its own limits and deductible, so it is worth reviewing what is actually included.
Can you help if I have a high-risk driving record?
Coverage availability and pricing depend on the carrier's underwriting. We can review the options that may be available for your situation, but we cannot guarantee that a particular carrier will accept an application.
Will my rate go up after a claim?
That depends on your policy, the carrier, and the details of the claim. We can help you understand your policy and the claims process, but the carrier decides how a claim affects your premium.
Can I add a teen driver to my policy?
Yes, adding a household driver is a common policy change. Contact the agency and we can help you review what the carrier needs and how adding a driver may affect your coverage.
Home insurance
Is home insurance required in Kentucky?
Home insurance is not generally required by state law, but mortgage lenders typically require it while a loan is outstanding. Even without a mortgage, most homeowners carry coverage to protect the home and personal liability.
What is the difference between replacement cost and actual cash value?
Replacement cost coverage pays to replace damaged property with new items of similar kind and quality, subject to policy limits. Actual cash value pays the depreciated value instead. The difference can be significant, so review which basis your policy uses.
Does home insurance cover flooding?
Standard home insurance policies generally do not cover flood damage. Flood coverage is typically a separate policy. Talk with us about what your policy does and does not include.
Do you offer renters insurance?
We can help renters review coverage for personal property and liability. Contact us with the details of your rental situation and we will review the options available.
I work from home. Does my homeowners policy cover my business?
Standard homeowners policies often exclude or limit business-related exposures. If you operate a business from home, it is worth reviewing whether separate business coverage is appropriate.
Business insurance
Does my Kentucky business need workers' compensation insurance?
Kentucky generally requires employers with one or more employees to carry workers' compensation coverage, with limited exceptions. Requirements can change and exceptions apply, so confirm your obligations with the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet or a qualified professional.
What is the difference between general liability and a business owner's policy?
General liability coverage addresses third-party claims involving bodily injury or property damage arising from your operations. A business owner's policy (BOP) typically combines general liability with commercial property coverage. Whether a BOP fits depends on your business.
Do I need commercial auto insurance?
If vehicles are used for business purposes, a personal auto policy may not provide the coverage you expect. Commercial auto coverage is worth reviewing for owned, leased, rented, or employee-driven vehicles used in operations.
Can you provide a certificate of insurance?
Certificates are issued for active policies by the carrier or agency. Once coverage is in place, we can help you understand how to obtain the documentation a landlord, vendor, or client is requesting.
What information helps with a business quote?
A description of your operations, annual revenue or payroll, employee count, property values, vehicles, and current policies are a strong start. The more accurate the information, the more meaningful the comparison.
Life and health insurance
What is the difference between term and permanent life insurance?
Term life insurance provides coverage for a set period, such as 10, 20, or 30 years, and generally costs less for the same death benefit. Permanent coverage can last your lifetime and may build cash value, but it typically costs more. The right choice depends on your goals and budget.
How much life insurance do I need?
There is no single formula that fits everyone. Common considerations include income replacement, debts, future education costs, and the time your dependents would need support. We can walk through your situation and the options available.
When can I enroll in individual health insurance?
Enrollment is generally limited to an annual open enrollment period or a qualifying life event such as marriage, a move, or loss of other coverage. Timing rules matter, so contact us and we will help you understand the current options and deadlines.
Can you help me compare health plans?
We can help you review individual and family health coverage options and understand how deductibles, networks, and out-of-pocket costs differ. We do not decide what a health plan covers; the plan documents and carrier do.
The information on this page is general in nature and is not a substitute for your policy documents or professional advice. Coverage requirements and product availability vary by state and carrier, and can change.
